MoDean's, in its various incarnations, is a primary setting of Letterkenny. Operated by Gail, it is the only bar in town and as such a popular spot for the Hicks and the hockey players. The Skids can be found there too from time to time in the early seasons, becoming regulars as the show went on. In Season 3, it was a too-popular destination for degens from upcountry, who inflicted much damage on the establishment until Gail hired her cousin Bradley to serve as a bouncer (Bradley Is a Killer).

Gail's establishments were seemingly fire-prone. The original MoDean's Roadhouse burned down under circumstances that are never explained, leaving the town of Letterkenny without a bar. Gail opens a new establishment as MoDean's II, hiring Bonnie McMurray and Glen for waitstaff, and sees success for some time as a bar and performance venue, for instance hosting a standup act and a talent show (Letterkenny Spelling Bee).

MoDean's II mysteriously burns down as well, and for a time the Hicks take their drinking to the Ukrainian Centre. Nevertheless, Gail persists and in Season 6 opens a third MoDean's, a more upscale establishment stylized MoD3an's. This iteration has proved more fire-resistant, enduring ever since, with Bonnie continuing in her role. Gail at one point envisions expanding the operation to attract a wider crowd, as "MoDean's Family Style Pub & Grill Tap House Eatery Resort Golf Casino," but this is met only with disapproval from the Hicks, and the idea is presumably dropped (Red Card Yellow Card).

Behind the Scenes[]

MoDean's Roadhouse was a bar and performance space in Listowel, Ontario, Jared Keeso's hometown and the town on which the fictional town of Letterkenny is based. Like its namesake it was one of the only nightlife spots in town, and also like its namesake it closed down, although it was business conditions rather than fire that did them in.

The original MoDean's Roadhouse from Season 1 was filmed at the former Frood Hotel on Kathleen Street in Sudbury, Ontario, next to the dollar store (Donovan Variety) and across the street from the building used as the Letterkenny Walk-In Clinic. When this bar went out of business, it was no longer available for filming, and so the location was written out of the show as having burned down.

Fusions Bar and Restaurant, on Errington Avenue in nearby Chelmsford, was used for MoDean's II. Unfortunately it, too, went out of business after filming Season 3, and the new owners declined to allow its use for filming, hence the location was written out of the show again. After Fusions itself closed, the space became available again, but MoDean's II was already said to have burned down, and so the establishing shot of MoD3an's is made from the opposite site of the building.
